From Here to Eternity~ December 29, 2007
I quit my job for Modern Exposition Services and moved back to Salt Lake City from Arizona. I am now attending Utah College of Massage Therapy and will be wrapping up my first term in 3 weeks. I am enjoying it so much...my only regret is waiting so long to finally follow this dream. I haven't been working since I moved back to Utah in mid- March and have enjoyed just having time to myself and being on my schedule. Selfish as it sounds I really needed it...I was pushing really hard in Arizona and working 80 hour weeks pretty consistently. I have applied for a few jobs since I've been back but not really trying to find anything. Well, now I'm bored so I've decided this week is the week to pound the pavement and get back in a "normal" schedule. I'm glad I've had the opportunity to get into the groove of school and not have to worry about a job but I'm not the type to just sit around and do nothing...I need something to keep me busy during the day too. I have always performed better under pressure and having a job that keeps me on task will be a good thing. I'm not independently wealthy by any means and I do need to work to pay the bills but I was blessed to have a good paying job in Arizona and I learned how to save while I was there, so I had a reserve set aside for this purpose...pretty cool I think. I have to say thanks to my roommate Jess for being my inspiration for that!
The move back to Utah for school was also a blessing in another way because of a snowmobile accident my mom was in on April 1. She spent 2 weeks in the ICU at EIRMC in Idaho Falls and just over a week on the rehab floor at the hospital and was able to go home. I'm not going to lie that first week was really scary and I think I prayed more in that week than I had in the previous three months combined. We are so blessed that mom is now home and well on the road to full recovery. She will have her left arm in the cast for about 3 more weeks and will have the TSLO (turtle shell) back brace on for a couple of more months to help build up the strength around her T-7,8 and 9 vertebrae that they did surgery on.
I have been able to spend a lot of time with her over the past month and I can't tell you how happy I am that she is such a strong woman and a fighter. She is stubborn however and the head injury caused her to forget things sometimes--like how important it is for her to wear her brace whenever she is sitting at more than a 45 degree angle but she is getting better everyday. Thank you to everyone for the love and support over the past month getting mom back to where she is now.
In all my trips to Idaho to help take care of mom I have been able to spend time with my dad too. One of my favorite things to do is spend time with my dad touring the farm. It is so simple but we have a good time- at least I do! Spring has come a little late to the farm this year so I was able to see the drill working this year...that's a first in many years. Usually I don't see the fields until the grain is up and the hay is really coming on strong. I have to say there really is nothing better than the smell of freshly tilled dirt! I love that smell as much as fresh cut hay...mmmm good stuff. It just reminds me again of where I came from and why I will always be and Idaho Farm Girl...and proud of it!
Until next time...
